A candy floss maker (also called a cotton candy machine) is a device that turns granulated sugar into fluffy strands of sweet treat known as candy floss.
It works by heating sugar until it melts, then rapidly spinning it inside a small head or chamber. As the molten sugar is flung outward by centrifugal force, it cools almost instantly in the air and forms fine threads. These threads collect around the inside of a bowl, where they are gathered onto sticks or cones.
Most candy floss makers consist of:
A heating element to melt sugar crystals
A spinning head (spinner) that flings the sugar outward
A collection bowl to catch the sugar strands
A base unit with a motor and controls
Cones or sticks for serving the floss
They are commonly used at fairs, parties, cinemas, and events because they can produce large, airy portions of candy floss quickly and with minimal ingredients (just sugar, and sometimes flavouring or colouring).
